How do I borrow items?
Registered borrowers can check out items with a Library Card at any Monmouth County Library Branch Location.

How long can I keep the items I borrow?
The following loan periods apply:
Loan Periods:
  • Books, Audiocassettes, CDs, Circulating Magazines – 2 weeks
  • Videos, DVDs (Entertainment) – 2 days
  • Videos, DVDs (Instructional) – 1 week

Note: No library items are due on Sunday.

How do I renew my items?
Patrons have several options to renew items:

Renew online. Use the WebCat Library Catalog “User Services.” For more information see our Online Renewal Instructions.

Call any Monmouth County Library Branch Location.

Renew items in person at any Branch Location circulation desk.

Please note that items can only be renewed THREE times online or by telephone. Items may be renewed more than three times in person except those with holds and those borrowed from outside the library system. Items with holds and those borrowed from outside the library system CANNOT be renewed.

Where can I return items?
All borrowed items can be returned to any Monmouth County Library Branch Location. Book drops are available at all branches after the library is closed.

What if my item is not available?
If the item you want is out, at another library, or not available, you may place a request for an item online, in person, or by phone at any Monmouth County Library Branch Location. Patrons are notified by phone when an item they requested is available. Additionally, interlibrary loan service provides access for patrons to items not found in our collection.

What if I return my items late?
In the event that an item is late the following charges apply:
Late fees:

Adult Collection – Books, Audios, CDs, Circulating Magazines - 10’ per day; $4.00 maximum per item

Juvenile Collection - Books, Audios, CDs, Circulating Magazines - 10’ per day; $2.00 maximum per item

Interlibrary Loans - 50’ per day; $10.00 maximum per item.

Videos, DVDs - $1.00 per day; $10.00 maximum per item.

What if I lose an item?
The borrower will be charged the replacement cost of the item.
