The British vocal group The Mediæval Bæbes enchanted a crowd of more than 350 at Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan on October 3 and helped raise $1,845 for Superstorm Sandy recovery efforts.

The proceeds from the Library's Concert for the Renaissance of the Jersey Shore will go directly to the Monmouth County Long-Term Recovery Group.

"We are very thankful for the incredible work that is still being done to help victims of Sandy by the many volunteer groups, like the Monmouth County Long Term Recovery Group. Without their tireless efforts, many residents here would be completely without hope," said Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, Library Liaison, who attended the concert.

"It's hard to believe it's been almost a whole year since Sandy hit here," Burry said.
"We thank everyone who contributed to this concert. The proceeds will help assist those people who have suffered drastically from Sandy and who are still struggling to put their lives back together."

Joy Blazak, Volunteer Coordinator for the Monmouth County Long-Term Recovery Group, thanked the members of The Mediæval Bæbes and their manager, Maurice Bacon, for contributing their time and donating 20 percent of the proceeds from the merchandise they sold during the concert.

"We are thrilled and delighted by the contributions, and consider this to be a great success! We want everyone who contributed to know that all of the money will go directly to help Hurricane Sandy victims get back in their homes," Blazak said.

The Mediæval Bæbes are a British ensemble of female musicians founded in the 1990s by Katherine Blake, who was joined by other singers who share her love of medieval music. The group pulls lyrics from medieval texts and sets them to original scores for songs of astonishing beauty.

The group has performed at The Royal Albert Hall, Carnglaze Caverns in Cornwall, Jersey Opera House, Tewkesbury Abbey, supported Michael Flatley in Hyde Park, and performed at the legendary Lilith Fair.
