OUR HISTORY & WHAT WE DO AS A FEDERAL, STATE, and COUNTY DEPOSITORY LIBRARY
The Eastern Branch of the Monmouth County Library is one of a select few public libraries in the United States designated as a Federal Depository Library. The Eastern Branch has been collecting government publications since the U.S. House of Representatives designated the library a depository of federal documents in 1968. The library participates in the Federal Depository Library Program which provides free access to federal government information at libraries across the country. Selected documents produced by Federal agencies are distributed to the Monmouth County Library through this program. Please see About the FDLP, for more information on the Federal Depository Library Program, without which, Monmouth County Library could not be such a rich federal information access point. The red, white, and blue eagle and book shields at the top of this page, and around the Eastern Branch Library, show that Monmouth County is proud to be a Federal Depository Library.
Monmouth County Library is also proud to have become a New Jersey State Documents Center as well as a Monmouth County Documents Center around the same time as gaining our Federal Depository status. We are honored to assist our community in finding Federal, State, and County Government Information.
Monmouth County Library's Government Documents Center collection includes federal, state, and county information useful in many fields including business, economics, education, health and medicine, history, law, and science. It consists of a wide range of topics, only some of which include: census, labor, environmental, military, justice, tax, weather data, presidential and congressional documents, and much more. Information may be found in many formats including books, magazines, pamphlets, posters, microfiche, maps, compact discs, DVDs, and electronic resources.
HOW TO FIND GOVERNMENT INFORMATION THROUGH THE MONMOUTH COUNTY LIBRARY:
Government Documents Center materials can be found throughout the Eastern Branch library collection, and we thank you for your patience as we currently transition to include the catalog record for every Government Document held, as visually accessible in the library's electronic catalog. New Jersey State Documents and Monmouth County Government Information also may be found online in the library's electronic catalog, as well as through the links found under the topics of Monmouth County Government and New Jersey Government, on the page below . The majority of our print format Federal, State, and County Government Documents, however, are non-circulating reference works which may be used only in the library. These print resources can be used anytime at the Eastern Branch of the Monmouth County Library in Shrewsbury. Please be sure to ask at the Adult Reference Desk for help in locating a particular Government Document, as most documents are housed in the Documents Depository on the 2nd floor and a librarian will need to retrieve them for you.
