Sneak Preview: The Road to Vahalla

E-mail Print PDF

vahallaThe Monmouth County Library Headquarters will host another sneak preview of a Civil War documentary on Thursday, July 31 at 6 PM.

The Kansas-Missouri Border War was a bloody precursor to the Civil War. View the documentary The Road to Valhalla at Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan 07726, and then discuss the film with director Ken Spurgeon. This program is co-sponsored by the New Jersey Civil War Heritage Association.

When the Civil War erupted in 1861, it was a shock to many Americans. It was not a shock to the people of the Kansas-Missouri border. They had been at war since 1854, fighting over whether Kansas would be a free state or a slave state. The Road to Valhalla documents the effects of the Kansas-Missouri Border War and the role Kansas played.

The film is scheduled to premiere in October. For more information on this free event, please call 732-431-7220 x7222.

libationThe Next Stage Ensemble players return to Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan in August to tackle a classic Greek tragedy on Thursday, August 7 at 7 PM.

The Libation Bearers is the second in a trilogy written by the Greek playwright Aeschylus, concerning the return of the Greek King Agamemnon from the Trojan War, his murder, and the revenge exacted by his children, Orestes and Electra.

This free performance will be held at Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan 07726. Next Stage Ensemble, a division of The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey's Summer Professional Training Program, was created to nurture the work of early career actors and to train them in ensemble-based performance techniques.
