Get thee to Medieval Tales, A Renaissance Faire at Library Headquarters!

knightHear ye, hear ye! Hurry thine selves to Medieval Tales, A Renaissance Faire, at ye olde Library Headquarters in Manalapan on Saturday, October 25 from 10 AM to 4 PM! 

Fun for squires and maids, lads and lasses of all ages! This event is co-sponsored by The Society for Creative Anachronism, and will be held rain or shine.

Enjoy a full day of continuous entertainment! Forget your cares and take a step back in time. Get into the Renaissance spirit and come in costume. Enjoy demonstrations of sword and armor fights, fencing, archery, stone carving and more. Face painting and craft workshops will also be offered.

Weather permitting, activities will take place both inside and outside the Library. No registration is needed.

Library Headquarters is located at 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan 07726. Call the library at 732-431-7220 for more information.

Red Poppies in Flanders Fields: A WWI discussion

As part of the Monmouth County Library's continuing programs to mark the centennial of World War I, Dr.Judith L. Johnston will present a lecture on the early days of the war and its effect on the homefront in Britain.

Entitled Red Poppies in Flanders Fields:Understanding British Enthusiasm for War in 1914, the discussion will be held on Monday, October 27 at 7 PM at Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan 07726. The lecture takes its name from an iconic WWI poem written by Lt. Col. John McCrae, a Canadian Army doctor during the Ypres campaign.

rolfeCelebrate more than 40 years of Jazz at the Monmouth County Library in November!

Library Commission Chair Renee Swartz invites all of Monmouth County, young and old, to celebrate this eclectic art form through the contrasting styles of the featured musical groups, during November is Jazz Month. These free concerts are held at Library Headquarters, 125 Symmes Drive, Manalapan 07726. 

Three concerts will be offered this month:

The Nick Rolfe Quartet
2 PM Sunday, November 2
Nick Rolfe, New York Soul Pianist, is a highly versatile musician, currently playing with various R&B, jazz, gospel, and funk groups in and around NYC.  He has received critical acclaim for performances in support of his albums The Remedy, The Mind Of An Evolutionary and A History of Things To Come, as well as his work as a highly sought-after pianoplayer/keyboardist for other artists. The Nick Rolfe Quartet will feature vocalist Zaia Rolfe.

Classical Piano Concert with Teresa Ngo

Teresa Ngo, a 16 year-old high school junior at Biotechnology High School, has been playing the piano since she was eight years old. In her first piano competition in 2010, Teresa placed 2nd out of 100 students. She has played at Carnegie Hall in NYC for the past four years.

Classical violinist Joel DeWitt will perform three violin solos, each representing a different musical era: Bach's Violin Partita in D minor, Ysaye's Sonata No. 6 in E major, and Bartok's Sonata for Solo Violin. The concert will take place in the Terner Gallery. DeWitt has performed as a freelance musician in New York and as a member of the Columbus Symphony, Virginia Opera Association, New Jersey New Philharmonic and the Metro Lyric Opera.

Back by Popular Demand! Darla Isaacs Tarpinian and Rich Tarpinian have been on their musical journey together since 1995 .They have performed in a variety of settings and their music has been appreciated by audiences of all ages across a variety of venues throughout New Jersey.

The Reock & Roll Revue will feature highlights from previous Classic Album performances which began back in 2008 with The Beatles' White Album. Since that time they have performed The Who's Quadrophenia, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's Déjà vu, The Allman Brothers Band's Eat a Peach, The Band's Music From Big Pink and Eric Clapton's Journeyman.

This multi-media performance will showcase selections from each of these shows,including a short history lesson and video on the origins of these Classic Albums. The Reock & Roll Revue is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, Tom Reock.
