As part of ongoing outreach efforts to communities still recovering from Superstorm Sandy, the Digital Bookmobile National Tour will visit the Eastern Branch of the Monmouth County Library on Tuesday, October 7.

The Digital Bookmobile (www.digitalbookmobile.com) will showcase the Monmouth County Library's free eBook service Library on the Go! at the Eastern Branch in Shrewsbury on Tuesday, October 7 from 1:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

Readers of all ages are welcome to this free event, and are encouraged to bring their electronic devices with them for download instructions and assistance. The Eastern Branch Library is located at 1001 Route 35 in Shrewsbury 07702.

One of our member libraries, Sea Bright, remains closed after being devastated by Superstorm Sandy in October 2012. The building for another member library, Monmouth Beach remains closed, but they are offering limited library services at the Monmouth Beach Municipal Center. The Library's Oceanport branch has been relocated after flooding damage from Sandy forced the closure of Oceanport Borough Hall, where the library was located.

"We are pleased to welcome the Digital Bookmobile to the Eastern Branch, where residents of many of the Sandy-affected communities can gather to learn more about the downloadable eBook services the Monmouth County Library has to offer – technology that allows to you to access books and information on your personal electronic device," said Judi Tolchin, Acting Director of the Monmouth County Library System.

Meet the Author: Nomi Eve at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters

E-mail Print PDF

nomieveCome hear an impressive new voice in fiction, as author Nomi Eve visits Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan on Sunday, October 5 to read from her new novel, Henna House.

The program will begin at 2 PM at Library Headquarters, which is located at 125 Symmes Drive in Manalapan 07726

Eve's first book, The Family Orchard, was a Book-of-the-Month club main selection and nominated for a National Jewish Book Award. Eve has a masters degree in fiction writing from Brown University and has worked as a writer for The Village Voice and New York Newsday. She currently is a lecturer in the creative writing program at Bryn Mawr College.

Her newest book, Henna House, is an intimate family portrait that moves across the panorama of history. An evocative and stirring novel, the story centers on a young woman living in the fascinating and rarely portrayed community of Yemenite Jews of the mid-20th century.

From the traditions of the Yemenite Jews, to the far-ranging devastation of the Holocaust, to the birth of the State of Israel, Henna House offers an unforgettable coming-of-age story and a textured chronicle of a fascinating period in the 20th century. Only a handful of Jews remain in Yemen today. In Henna House, Eve explores the rich traditions and  customs of the now forgotten and once vibrant community of Yemenite Jews with spirit and warmth..
