Search Engines - Sometimes referred to as keyword indexes, users can type in keywords that indicate what you are trying to find. Changing the terms can make a search more precise.

Subject Directories – Directories use a hierarchical listing of subject headings to organize their collections of web sites. They can be useful for finding information on a broad topic or subject area.
      DMOZ - Open Directory Project
InfoMine - Scholarly Internet resource collections
Librarians' Index to the Internet – Internet resources selected and evaluated by librarians.
LookSmart - Hand picked web sites organized into categories
Google (Directory) – A search engine and a directory with subject directories evaluated by catalogers
Yahoo (Directory) – Both, a search engine and a directory with subject directories evaluated by catalogers
Meta Search Engines - These search engines query multiple search tools simultaneously.

Image Search - Find images in search tools that are specialized to find pictures and other visual media. Please note that there are often copyright constraints.
Specialty Search Engines – Find more than just web pages when you search specialty search engines, some of which give you access to databases not accessible elsewhere on the web.
