About Ebooks and Audio Books

E-mail Print PDF

Monmouth County Library makes eBooks available through two different sources, Library on the Go! and EBSCO eBooks (formerly NetLibrary). Most downloadable eBooks and audio books require installation of software before the books can be downloaded to your computer or device. Requirements/instructions vary by device. Before attempting to download digital books for the first time, it is important to review the brief instructions that can be found here or from the links that can be accessed from Get Started section on the Library on the Go! home page. Click on the Help button if you are accessing the site on a mobile device.

 Library on the Go!

Monmouth County Library makes both eBooks and audio books available through Library on the Go!. You will find both fiction and nonfiction books in Library on the Go!. Books can be accessed by going to Library on the Go! and logging into your Digital Media Account using your Monmouth County Library card number.

If you are planning to read eBooks on an e-reader such as a Nook, you may need to download them to your computer using Adobe Digital Editions and then transfer them to the e-reader. Users of portable devices such as iPads and Android phones can go directly to Library on the Go! and download directly to the device, provided they have installed the Overdrive Media Console and authorized the device.

If you wish to listen to Library on the Go! audio books on your ipod or MP3 player, you must first download and install the Overdrive Media Console. You can then download them to your computer and then transfer them to the ipod or MP3 player. There is an Overdrive Media Console app for mobile devices. Instructions and requirements can be found here.

EBSCO eBooks

In EBSCO eBooks, one can find nonfiction eBooks books on various topics. Most of these books can be downloaded to your computer but some must be read online while logged into the EBSCO site. In order to download EPUB books one must follow the same setup instructions as those found in Library on the Go!

The Library has not ordered audio books from EBSCO eBooks.

Free eBooks and Audio Books on the Internet

There are also eBooks and audio books that are freely available on the Internet. Free eBooks can be found at sites such as Project Gutenberg and free audio books can be found at LibriVox. If you are using a portable device such as an iPad or e-reader with wireless capability, you can directly from these sites as you would from Library on the Go!.
